17, 2011 Cross Country “CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES IN TOP FIVE IN CAPPY ANDERSON” “Standout Runners Basil Melek and Eunice Jones Finish in Top 10” PRINCESS ANNE, Md. —Norfolk State’s Josef Tessma set a new course record at the Hampton Inn Salisbury North/UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational Saturday. University of Maryland Eastern Shore finished in the top five. The UMES women finished third, while the men took fourth place. The Hawks Basil Melek finished third in a time of 25:23.06. Eunice Jones led the women with a sixth place finish of 18:46.37. Melek’s finish is his second top-five finish this
season. He placed first in the Delaware State Open (Sept. 10). Jones
notched her second top 10 finish this season as well. Zavior Brown placed 14th with
his time of 26:58.33. Shadrick Maritim and Codjo Gbedo placed 27th and 34th,
respectively. Maritim raced to a finishing time of 28:14.82 while Gbedo
finished in 29:08.45. Cynthia
Anais helped to give the Hawks two top 10 finishers with her eighth place time of
19:04.08. Hana Jiraskova and Melina Gallas rounded out the sub 21-minute runners with their times of 20:05.41 and 20:00.36, respectively. Both teams will return to the course Sept. 23 to compete in the Towson Invitational. The
