What are the State Games of America?

 

The State Games of America is the premier Olympic –style national event for athletes of all ages set up as a continuation of local State Games competitions. Male and female athletes of all ages and abilities will participate in fifteen different sports at the State Games of America 2003.

 

Connecticut will host the State Games of America (SGA) in 2003. Qualifying for the 2003 State Games of America took place during the 2001 and 2002 Summer and 2002 and 2003 Winter State Games competitions. Athletes will compete in 2003 and 2004 to qualify for the 2005 State Games of America. Track and field participants must enter event(s) in which a medal was awarded and may enter additional events up to the maximum of four.

 

Opening Ceremonies will be held at 7:30pm Friday August 8, 2003. Competition dates are from August 7th through August 10th. Track and field will be August 8th & 9th at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Ct. Track and field individual and relay events are scheduled for ages 10 & under through 80 & over. A  5k road race is scheduled for August 9 in Greater Hartford with the same age divisions.

Volunteers Needed for the 2003 State Games of America

What does it take to host an event like the State Games of America? It takes, of course, the VOLUNTEER! The volunteer is the cornerstone to the success of the State Games of America and the state games movement.

The State Games of America would not be able to operate efficiently without the services of hundreds of volunteers that graciously give up their time and energy to help run a first class event. The 2003 State Games of America need the assistance of volunteers to help run our event.

Volunteers range from officials, coaches, site directors, game administrators, and our Head Quarters Staff. Volunteers can pick the area / sport they would like to be involved with. No previous training is required, except for contest officials. Volunteers who devote three hours or more of their time will receive a State Games of America t-shirt. In addition, you’ll receive the satisfaction of knowing you were an integral part of making the State Games of America a success! To volunteer please fill out the volunteer form and send to:
