Coaches Osmon Brinkley and Tanya E. Tenturier

In April 2003 the Newark Survivors Track Club was born. The team was born out of the love, motivation and dedication of Coaches Osmon Brinkley and Tanya E. Tenturier. With conditioning and guidance from Hall of Fame Coach Ollie Dickerson, financial support from J. Duncan Oil Company and S/Kool Detective Agency and parental support from Assistant Coach Michele Loring, the club quickly began to take shape and the Track and Field Community began to take notice.

With eight talented and focused athletes, the Newark Survivors Track Club expects to dominate in the Sub-Bantum, Bantum and Midget Boys and Girls Division in the 2003-2004 Indoor and Outdoor seasons. In our first six months as a club we have exceeded our own goals and expectations with such success as six of our athletes qualifying and competing in the Junior Olympics Regional Championships held in Pomona, New Jersey in July 2003. At this prestigious event, our Sub-Bantum boys 400M Relay (comprised of Quawee Jefferie, Reginald Bullard, Shyteek Spivey and Elijah Mitchell-Marsh) placed 3rd in the Region. While our Bantum boy Tishawn Hunt ran his personal best in the 400M and qualified to move up from the Semi-Finals to the Finals and our Bantum girl Taylor Barnes did her thing in the 100M and 400M races. Our athletes also participated in the Northeast Invitational held at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on August 10, 2003. At Brown, our Sub-Bantum boys 400M Relay (comprised of Quawee Jefferie, Reginald Bullard, Shyteek Spivey and Anfernee Joseph) took home the gold. Our Bantum boy Tishawn Hunt brought home two silvers and bronze for his outstanding performances in the 100M, 200M and 400M races respectively. Our Bantum girl Taylor Barnes ran her personal best and brought home the silver in the 400M race. Some of our Sub-Bantum boys also brought home individual medals. Reginald Bullard earned two silver medals for the 100M and 200M races. While both Quawee Jefferie and Anfernee Joseph each earned two bronze medals for their performances in the 100M and 200M races.

Currently, our athletes are training for and participating in Cross Country season. Although the intention of the Coaches was to use this season for strengthening and preparation for Indoor Season, we are very proud to see that the our athletes have the drive in them to want more out of Cross Country then just getting ready for Indoor Season. By all of them finishing in the top five at their 1st 2003 Cross Country meet and then all of them finishing in the top ten at their 2nd 2003 Cross Country meet, Taylor Barnes (age 10), Tishawn Hunt (age 9), Shyteek Spivey (age 8), Anfernee Joseph (age 8), Quawee Jefferie (age 8), Reginald Bullard (age 7), Rameek Loring (age 7) and Lavonte Brinkley (age 6), have put their hearts along with their bodies on the starting line and pledged to go out and to do the best that can and be as successful as they possibly can be. We anticipate having the same success and enthusiasm in the future. Undoubtedly our victories will follow.
