The New Jersey Striders Track Club is a member club of USA Track and Field, New Jersey Association.  The NJ Striders have been involved for over 20 years.  The clubs overall philosophy is to introduce and expose children from the ages of 7-14 to the sport of track and field.  In order to achieve this goal the NJ Striders work very closely with the recreation departments throughout Bergen and Passaic Counties of New Jersey.  Towns that are members of the NJ Striders include Mahwah, Paramus, Saddle Brook, Englewood, Wayne, Hackensack, Ridgefield, Rutherford, Fair Lawn and Wood Ridge, New Jersey.

The NJ Striders host four developmental meets and one invitational meet at various sites.  Since the purpose is to expose children to the sport of track and field the meets are contested with children from 7 – 14 years of age.  Some athletes continue to compete for the Striders even after they enter high school.  These athletes compete at the local, Regional and National level.

Each developmental meet has a different set of events each week so that the young athletes have a chance to try as many of the events as they would like throughout the season.  All of the Strider events are open to all youth teams and athletes.  Each of these meets has an excess of 500 athletes competing.  To further stress the importance of development all athletes receive a ribbon regardless of place.

The NJ Striders qualify numerous athletes for State, Regional and National competition.  In 2002 the Striders qualified eleven individuals for the USATF Junior Olympic National Championship in Nebraska.  They included:  Megan Bolleman of Mahwah – Bantam 1500 Race Walk – 12th place; Victoria Dell’Aquila of Paramus – Midget 1500 Race Walk – 5th place; Nicole Klein of Fair Lawn - Midget 1500 Race Walk – 11th place; Christopher Stuart of Paramus - Midget 1500 Race Walk – 9th place; Christy Nelson of Mahwah - Youth 1500 Race Walk – 8th place; Alana Pantale of Wayne – Bantam Shot – 10th place; Jennifer Croghan of Nutley – Youth 3000 Run – 3rd Place and the Youth 1500 Run – 4th Place; Christopher Pantale of Wayne – Midget Discus – 6th place, Midget Shot Put – 14th place and the Midget Turbo Jav – 2nd  place; James Stathopoulos of Mahwah – Youth Discus – 19th place; Jonathan Sam of Paramus – Midget 100 Dash – 36 place; Zachary Pollinger of Mahwah – Intermediate 5000 Race Walk – 1st Place (New National Record).  Zachary also won the 2003 Millrose Games one-mile race.  We are proud of all of these athletes as well as all of the other athletes who compete in all of our meets.  They all strive to be the best that they can be individually and that is what Track and Field is all about.

Purpose: PhatBack Athletics is an all boys track & field club and mentor

program that serves young men between the ages of 13 and 18-years-old.  The program is administered by Mister Mann Frisby, who has eight years of coaching experience. PhatBack’s purpose is to develop and nurture the athletic talent of these young men while allowing them to build relationships with highly successful men in various professions. All members are required to attend monthly mentor sessions in which a chosen speaker shares their life experiences. PhatBack practices three times a week from April through July and competes mostly on weekends.

The team motto is: “I am one of many, only opportunity has distinguished me from many….”

History: PhatBack Athletics competes in meets sanctioned by USA Track & Field (USATF) and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). The scheduled meets begin in May and run throughout July on a yearly basis. By providing this positive athletic outlet for our athletes, we are assuring that they have a fighting chance to compete for athletic and academic scholarships. In the program, critical issues facing young men such as self-esteem, violence, drug abuse, and sex are regularly addressed. PhatBack Athletics is vital in the lives of its members because it allows them an opportunity to compete in high quality athletic competitions while exposing them to some of the nation’s finest college campuses. In the last few years, members of the team have competed at such sites as University of Tennessee, Morgan State, Duke University, and Norfolk State University.

Dear Coach,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the second DeKalb Youth Track and Field Invitational scheduled for July 4-6, 2003 at Panthersville Stadium in DeKalb County, Georgia. DeKalb is the perfect place to bring your team and their families. Located just six miles from downtown Atlanta, DeKalb is a safe, affordable, and friendly destination that draws millions of visitors each year.

Since this event is being held in conjunction with the July 4th holiday, we will also provide special entertainment, promotions and fireworks during the event. There will be several Olympic Gold Medalists and coaches on hand to sign autographs, inspire the athletes, and award the winners, including Maurice Green, the 100 meter world record holder, who will serve as Honorary Chairman.

This is a perfect opportunity to develop your young athletes, inspire them to greatness, and have a lot of fun doing it. Join the teams from New York, California, the southeast and the Caribbean who have already expressed an interest in this exciting competition. Space is limited, so please do not delay in making your reservations.
